To Revive a River

This project documents the Anacostia Watershed Society's and its army of volunteers' efforts to restore the historic river to the healthy, thriving state it once had. At one point, the river was clear enough to see the bottom, but over the past few hundred years, pollution has dirtied the river's waters to the point where life cannot thrive in parts of it. Through wild rice cultivation to help naturally filter the waters and control sediment levels, garbage collection and sorting of all the unwanted material that flows into the river, and community outreach to help get the local community more engaged and interested in joining the fight for cleaning up the river are some of the ways the river is getting clean
