The American Berkiebeiner
At the end of February, tens of thousands of people flock to the small town of Hayward, Wisconsin, to watch the American Berkiebeiner. The Berkiebeiner is North America's largest cross-country ski race. The race is inspired by the Norwegien Berkiebeiner whis pays homage to the historical story of the resuce of prince Haakon by the berkiebeiner wariors in 1206., in which the warriors skied the young prince to saftey. Today, the race not only serves as a large sporting event but also a way for many Midwestern Americans to stay connected to their Nordic heritage
